Judy Ross-Hopton
Judy Ross-Hopton
, 65, is a keyboardist, vocalist, and songwriter whose song, “Faces,” was recorded in 1970 by Billy Daniels, of “That Old Black Magic” fame. The song achieved quite a bit of attention and air play. “Hearing my song played on the radio was as exciting as it gets,” Judy says. She also wrote the alma mater for her high school, which is sung to this day.
Judy’s musical experience began early, in the same place as so many big-name stars: in church. She played and sang there often throughout childhood and as an adult. That experience parlayed into a career that allowed her to make a living performing at venues throughout the South and Southeast.
Judy and her husband, Harold “Buzz” Hopton, have been married for 33 years and have one son, Brian, age 22. Judy is currently retired and enjoys reading and crossword and Sudoku puzzles. In recent years, Judy has again taken up songwriting, and says she hopes to revisit the thrill of success. “It ain’t over yet!” she says.
