Janis Carnes
Janis Carnes, 62, is a songwriter who was born in Shelbyville, Tennessee and grew up right here in Nashville. She and her husband, Rick, have been married for 33 years and have two children, Scott and Bevin. Besides singing and songwriting, Janis enjoys graphic arts, crafts/sewing, and crossword puzzles.

Music has woven itself into the fabric of Janis’ life. “For some reason, I sing everything instead of saying it,” she says. “This has turned my home into a never-ending opera. My children grew up singing their responses to some of my spontaneously generated tunes, such as What would you like for Breakfast? and Has Anyone Let the Dog Out?  For us, it seemed entirely normal to burst into song (or even dance) at any and every opportunity.”
