Ginger Farry
, 68, is the author of four Christian prayer books, a former Spanish and religion teacher, and a current teacher of evening creative writing classes. She says she is “mostly” retired but writes songs with her son in the hopes that one of them will someday be recorded. Her son, Mike Bauer, will accompany her on the guitar, and her daughter, Eydi, is a chiropractor in California. Mike has two children, Adelaide and Graham Michael, whom Ginger loves to babysit overnight.
Ginger was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1995 and thought she would never sing again. She tells the story of how that all changed: “A few months ago, I was sitting in church and asked the Lord what He would have me do next. And this quiet, little voice said: ‘Sing.’ And I said, ‘Lord, did you forget that I had throat cancer? I can’t sing.’ Well, soon after that I got the invite from HealthSpring’s Silver Stars. I kind of hesitated, but I registered. Then I called my son and we began to practice.” Ginger adds that the night after the Silver Stars auditions, her son told her, “Mom, I’m so proud of you because you still dare to dream. I really learned something from you today.” Ginger says, “I’m still crying over that.”
